IMPORTANT:
Passports are required for all travelers coming to Canada.
Passport Validity
Double check your passport is up to date to ensure you can travel to and from Canada! US Passports should have at least 6 months validity from return date. For example, if you plan on departing Canada August 20, 2026 your passport expiration date can be no earlier than February 20, 2026.
* Make sure to prepare for Passport processing time of at least 6 - 8 weeks.
Criminal Record?
As of December 2018, Canada does not allow US residents into the country if they have a criminal record. Canada and the US now share the FBI database.
In order to enter the country, you will need to get a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) with the RNMP. This can be done online and comes with a fee. Otherwise, you may be stopped and turned around at the border.
